Set up keyboard shortcuts after installing NotNotch
After install, keyboard shortcuts is opt-in through Settings so existing users are not surprised. Hover, tap, and keyboard shortcuts can open the notch without another window.

First launch
Finish onboarding, then open Settings and enable keyboard shortcuts if you want it.
Permissions
macOS may ask for calendar, notifications, or files depending on keyboard shortcuts. Decline any you do not need.
