Shipping Desktop widgets behavior is a local Mac utility. WidgetKit extras can sit in Notification Center while the notch stays the live companion. Network is not required for the core notch host.

Sparkle updates and optional music backends may need a network. Desktop widgets itself is described as on-device where the feature allows.
